You are kindly invited to engage in climate change adaptation for Gulbene district.

What? |
You are invited to submit an essay on one of the proposed topics about the climate change or energy efficiency problems and solutions in your local area. |

Why? |
The Administration of Gulbene Municipality is implementing the project Act Now! (Action for Energy Efficiency in Baltic Cities). You can also find more information about this project here: https://www.gulbene.lv/lv/projekti/aktivie-projekti/307-act1803 From the 30th September till 2nd October Gulbene Municipality as project partner is invited to participate in the current planned meeting and also to attend the event ”100% Climate Neutrality Conference” which will be held in Denmark. The Conference will consist of different parallel sessions including discussions and workshops just for Youth. You are kindly invited to become one of three students from Gulbene to join ten people delegation on this Conference. All students will be accompanied by one teacher and one youth specialist during the travelling and the Conference. |

What You have to do? |
Submit an essay on one of the proposed topics, send it to the e-mail: baiba.kalmane@gulbene.lv. The e-mail you use to submit the essay will be used for further communication with you. The deadline to submit an essay is 13th September 15:00. Take care about the innovation in your municipality and actuality relevance of the essay content. Take care that essay is in accordance with format and quality requirements that are written in this publication (language – English; MS WORD or similar editable file format; 600 – 1000 words are allowed). Take care that you are the only author of essay that you have submitted and no one will have any objections on the authenticity of your work. Please take care of informing your parents about this activity and the opportunity to go on a journey to Denmark. Your parents will have to give the allowance for travel and have to help you with the costs for dinner (only) for all 4 days. You and your parents will have to give the permission for publishing the photos or videos where you might be included during the conference and workshops to provide the project ActNow! publicity requirements. Take care that you are open to be on a journey from the 29th September till 2nd October (return on very late evening). |

What happens next? |
Employers from Gulbene Municipality’s Development and project department together with some teachers from local schools will estimate submitted essays from the 13th September till 17th September. During the evaluation your essay will be anonym for jury. You will get answer in your e-mail about the results of evaluation on the 18th September. The students’ names that are coming to Denmark and also to participate in the conference and workshops will be published in Gulbene Municipality’s web page www.gulbene.lv. Students that are coming to Denmark will get all information about the event and travel in the e-mail. |

Result |
You will participate in great transnational event that is devoted to Climate change adaptation where you will meet like-minded Youngsters from others states and also make new friends. You will have an opportunity to visit Denmark cities Copenhagen and Sonderborg and see their progress on climate change. You will have opportunity to join in discussions and workshops that will expand your purview on global climate changes and contemporary trends Together with the members of the Gulbene Municipality delegation you will organize a creative, public event with discussions and workshops for the local society about adaption of climate changes in Gulbene district. |

- The role of transport and mobility in small towns in the period of climate change.
- The impact of food industry on the climate neutrality plan.
- Generational dissimilar motivation on waste sorting and waste reducing in my local area.
- Energy efficiency in my home - current situation and opportunities.
- Raising public awareness on energy efficiency and climate change: what should be done?
- The role of school in informing young people about energy efficiency issues - responsibilities and opportunities.
The evaluation opinion will consist of:
1) Compliance with formatting (the language, file format and text amount) and quality requirements and authenticity of author’s work;
2) Additional criteria to be evaluated:
- relevance to the essay topic;
- innovation of the idea.
The evaluation opinion will be provided by:
1) the employees of Gulbene Municipality Development and Project Department;
2) teachers of Gulbene Municipality;
